Anwar Saeed
Anwar Saeed (b. Lahore, Pakistan 1955) graduated from National College of Arts in Lahore in 1978 and spent one year at Royal College of Art in London where he completed his post graduate studies. He has exhibited widely in Pakistan and has participated in group shows in USA, Australia, Norway, Egypt, Jordan and India. He has taught at the National College of Arts, Lahore, as Associate Professor since 1986.
Saeed is among the few artists in Pakistan who dwells on notions of gender differences in his work, and the rigidity of societal frameworks that define people and cultures. He draws on the strange dichotomies of homosexuality in Pakistan and the ways in which homophobia presents itself, sometimes in disguise, other times overtly hostile.
